The Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan has officially decided to celebrate May 18 as “Turkic Writing Day.” From now on, May 18 will be officially celebrated in Kazakhstan along with other official days.
Last year, at a meeting held at Kazakhstan's Eurasian National University, chaired by Dariga Nazarbayeva, Chairwoman of the Social and Cultural Development Committee of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, participants proposed designating May 18, the date on which a replica of the Kül Tigin monument was brought from Mongolia to Astana, as “Turkic Writing Day.”
This year, for the first time, the Turkic Academy organized the “Turkic Writing Day” International Forum in Astana on May 19-20 to mark this important day. The Eurasian National University and TIKA have supported the forum. Scientists and statesmen from many countries, primarily Turkiye, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia, participated in the forum. It is expected that this meaningful day will also be celebrated in the member countries of the Turkic Council in the future. Throughout the forum, presentations were given on the topics of “The Past, Present, and Future of the Turkic Script” and “Theoretical and Methodological Problems of Common Turkic History.” In addition, a book exhibition featuring publications from the Turkish Academy was organized to promote new publications.
