On 18-19 December 2025, the Turkic States Forum on Combating Disinformation was held in Ankara, organized by the Directorate of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye.
The Forum brought together high-level officials and media representatives from Turkic States as well as the Secretariat of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
The opening ceremony of the Forum featured keynote addresses by Prof. Burhanettin Duran, Head of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye; Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Kanat Iskakov, Vice Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Marat Tagaev, Deputy Minister of Culture, Information and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic; Kobuljon Akhmedov, Director of the Center for the Production of Content for Mass Media under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC); and Dr. Ömer Kocaman, Deputy Secretary General of the OTS.
In his address, Deputy Secretary General Dr. Ömer Kocaman highlighted the importance of strengthened cooperation and coordinated efforts among the Turkic States in countering disinformation, advancing media literacy, ensuring information security, and promoting responsible digital communication. He further noted that the Forum builds on the outcomes of the 7th OTS Meeting on Media and Information in Baku, and contributes to turning shared commitments into practical action.
Participants also emphasized the importance of reinforcing joint efforts to advance media cooperation, particularly through forums of this kind, which provide a platform to exchange views, learn from one another’s experiences, and identify practical steps for cooperation.
Within the framework of the Forum, a series of panel sessions and presentations were held on a wide range of topics related to combating disinformation, strengthening strategic communication, enhancing media literacy, and fostering cooperation among Turkic States in the information sphere. The panels featured official representatives of relevant authorities of OTS Member States and Observers, as well as journalists and media professionals from across the Turkic world.
