Secretary General met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary
Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) H.E. Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary H.E. Péter Szijjártó on 14 May 2024 in Budapest.

Foreign Minister touched upon several topics that are high on the agenda of the Hungarian cooperation with the OTS such as the activities of the OTS Representation Office in Budapest, operationalization of the Drought Prevention Institute established within the framework of the Representation Office, operationalization of the Turkic Investment Fund (TIF) and prospective membership of Hungary in the TIF, Hungary’s EU Presidency that will start in early July and the Joint Working Plan between the Hungarian Foreign Ministry and the OTS to enhance OTS-EU relations in that period, as well as the planned OTS meetings and events to be held in Hungary in the upcoming period. Minister reiterated Hungary’s strong commitment to further strengthening the multifaceted cooperation with the OTS and the OTS countries.

Secretary General highlighted the contentment of the Turkic States for the committed convergence of bilateral and multilateral ties and enhancing cooperation with Hungary following its obtention of Observer status at the OTS in 2018. He underscored that Hungary has become a valuable partner for the Turkic States, was deeply incorporated in the ongoing cooperation structure of the Organization in a very short span of time and elevated its cooperation with all of OTS members to a strategic level.

Secretary General informed the Minister on a wide range of topics on the agenda of the Organization and the practical steps taken for the implementation of the Action Plan of 10th Summit of the OTS. He provided information about the upcoming high-level meetings and activities, including first and foremost the preparations for the Informal Shusha Summit to be convened in Azerbaijan in July 2024 and the 11th OTS Summit that will be held in Bishkek in October 2024. Moreover, Secretary General paid a special attention to the “Joint Working Plan between the OTS and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary for supporting the development of the OTS-EU relations in 2024” and highlighted the importance of strengthening the OTS-EU relations in the field of economy, transport and connectivity, energy, ICT and digitalization, agriculture and environmental protection, as well as combating irregular migration. Secretary General extended his appreciation to Minister Szijjártó for Hungary’s active role and initiatives to support the Turkic cooperation in every possible field. 

At the end of the meeting, the signing ceremony for the Joint Working Plan between the OTS and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary for supporting the development of the OTS-EU relations in 2024 was conducted. Afterwards, Foreign Minister Szijjártó and the Secretary General Omuraliev held a press conference where they briefed the press members about their deliberations as well as the rising importance of the OTS-Hungarian cooperation.
