Informal Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States concludes in Shusha, Azerbaijan
The Informal Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), hosted by H.E. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, successfully concluded in Shusha, Azerbaijan on 6 July 2024. The Summit, held in the historic city of Shusha, brought together the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic H.E. Sadyr Japarov, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Vice President of Türkiye H.E. Cevdet Yılmaz, Prime Minister of Hungary H.E. Viktor Orbán, President of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus H.E. Ersin Tatar and Secretary General of the OTS H.E. Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev.
Under the theme “Building a Sustainable Future through Transport, Connectivity and Climate Action” the Summit provided a vital platform for high-level discussions on key issues and the Organization's agenda. The leaders engaged in productive dialogue and reached pivotal decisions, finalizing and endorsing documents related to various OTS projects.
The Heads of State signed and adopted several important documents, including the Garabagh Declaration, which offers a comprehensive vision for the region's future cooperation. They also signed the decision to increase the staff and budget of the Secretariat of the Organization of Turkic States, thereby strengthening the organizational capacity of the OTS.
In his closing remarks, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude to the attending leaders for their active participation and contributions.
The Council of Foreign Ministers of the OTS also convened in Shusha prior to the Summit to finalize the agenda items and documents to be signed by the Heads of State. Their efforts ensured a smooth and productive Summit, setting the stage for the successful adoption of the Garabagh Declaration and other significant agreements. Ministers signed a decision on Appointment of Mr.Istvan Vasary as the Executive Director of the Representation Office of the OTS in Budapest.
The Organization of Turkic States remains committed to strengthening cooperation among its member states and promoting regional stability, prosperity, and sustainable development. The outcomes of this Summit mark an important step forward in achieving these objectives.
